Tuesday 14th July – Hey team, as you may have read in your newsletter this week we are sadly saying goodbye to Mr Wallis as he has a new, different job to go to. If you would like to write a goodbye note to Mr Wallis, so I can print it off and put it in his card, please get your adult at home to email me your message BEFORE Friday. Thank you!
Monday 13th July – Hello team, I hope you had a great weekend in the sunshine and fingers and toes crossed it’s here to stay this week. Uh oh spaghetti-o…Oak Academy lessons haven’t been uploaded yet so there aren’t any for the time being. But fear not if you’re stuck for something to do…why not watch one of Andy’s Aquatic Adventures on BBC iPlayer and create a non-chronological report or fact page about one of the animals on there and use your artistic skills to draw a picture of the animal?
Monday 6th July – Good morning team, please find this week’s Year 2 and Year 3 schedule for this week’s Oak Academy lessons.
I hope you enjoy them and don’t forget to ask your adults to send me photos of your learning and creating at home so I can put them on our Google Classroom, then your teammates can leave comments and you can write messages to each other!
If you want to join us for an art lesson on exploring the technique of blending on Friday afternoon (10/7/20) at 1:30pm, then use the Google meet link aon our Google Classroom. I shall post which other lessons you can join from home as well…
Monday 29th June – Good morning team!
I hope you had a lovely weekend, despite the weather not making its mind up. I went fruit picking at Tibb’s Farm for the first time and came back with very red hands…wearing a white t-shirt wasn’t very sensible! I know, I know… “Mr Cornes sort it out”! Below is this week’s timetable for the Year 2 and Year 3 Oak Academy lessons. Enjoy your learning this week team.
Which lessons have you been enjoying the most? Tell us about your learning on our Google Classroom as you can leave messages and comment on each other’s photos there!
Don’t forget to send me your talent show entries!
Voting starts from Monday 22nd June so send your email votes to me!
Here is Jessica singing for her talent show entry!
This is an animation that Luca did for his talent show entry!

Monday 15th June – Good morning team, I hope you are all well and you had a lovely weekend in the sunshine. Wasn’t the weather wonderful? I did lots of gardening and went to the seaside, it was so nice to see the sea! Unfortunately the schedule and links for the Oak Academy lessons for this week aren’t up yet. Worry not, I shall put the timetable and all the links on here as soon as it is available. So, in the meantime, may be have a day of doing Curious Curriculum learning from our I Wonder… ocean topic. Also you could practice your talent for the upcoming talent show and send that in to me! Thank you for your patience and understanding…
Friday 5th June – We really hope you’ve enjoyed your Oak Academy learning this week and here is the schedule for next week’s learning, as well as information about this term’s exciting new Curious Curriculum: I wonder what we can learn from the ocean?

Friday 5th June – Hello team! We are coming to the end of our first week of Oak Academy learning here at school and we have been really enjoying all the different, interesting lessons being taught by so many different teachers. So far we have made posters about the importance of hand washing; learned about measuring capacity in millilitres and litres; learned about telling the temperature using a thermometer; learned the names for all the colours in Spanish; learned about how plants adapt to different environments; created artwork from shadows that objects create; learned about 2D and 3D shapes’ properties; written sentences using prepositions; read part of the Firework Maker’s Daughter; learned about and written our own haikus AND learned about an ancient Chinese civilisation called The Shang Dynasty. Phew! What a lot of learning. We hope you’ve been enjoying them too, if you are doing the Oak Academy lessons, or that you are enjoying other learning you have been doing at home with your adults and on your own instead. Don’t forget to send your photos in so I can share them below…
Monday 1st June – Good morning Satsuma Class, I hope you all had a lovely, sunny half term at home with your families and enjoyed the sunshine and blue skies! Please find below your new learning schedule that children at school and at home will be using at the same time on the Oak National Academy website. If you have any questions then please don’t hesitate to get in touch and enjoy all the different lessons and videos…

Monday 11th May – Konnichiwa mina-san! I hope you all had a lovely, sunny Bank Holiday weekend and enjoyed having three days off. Did you do anything nice for VE day? Did you celebrate in your front gardens and may be speak to your neighbours over the fence at a safe distance? The weather was lovely and I went for a walk and saw lots of dragonflies, horses, sheep, butterflies and rabbits, as well as smelling lots of wild garlic and hawthorn. There’s so much to see in Spring! Let’s hope the sunshine comes back soon though, this wind is crazy and my plants in the garden are definitely not enjoying being battered around. Thank you to the children who have already sent me the answers to their questions I sent via email on Thursday, it’s been lovely reading so many positive comments about school and your time in Satsuma Class so far which has made me have a big, cheesy smile on my face all day! Take care and stay safe team. Otsukaresama deshita!
Monday 4th May – Good morning team! I hope you are all well and you had a great weekend, despite the rain. Bring back the sunshine I say, though all that water sure is good for the plants in my garden! Hold the phone, stop the press…here is the new home learning for you all! Please have a look at it and I look forward to seeing your work later in the week. Remember if you have any questions please email me.

Eben’s been learning about forces and materials and built a castle wall out of cardboard boxes, from the Home Learning 3 tasks. He and his brother took turns to throw things at it until it fell down and recorded the outcome on a photo, which he found very fun!
Luca has been doing lots of art and created cyanotype photograms in the garden. He painted the paper with UV sensitive liquid inside then placed garden plants on the paper in the garden to watch the exposure. Luca has just finished his Viking project on Harald ‘Bluetooth’ from Norway.
Wednesday 15th April – Fancy listening to a funny story each day?
This week at school we have been listening (and laughing out loud A LOT!) to David Walliams’ HILARIOUS stories at 11am each weekday on his website: https://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/elevenses/. If you missed any of them from last week then you can catch up on them here: https://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/elevenses-catch-up/
Need a little help with your maths?
The clever maths people at White Rose have created some excellent maths learning on their website that you might be interested in… They’re putting fortnightly maths activities up to do at home for the summer term. They’ve even included videos and they’re available for each year group. How brilliant is that? Also parents, don’t worry as you get the answers too!

Spring card competition for vulnerable people
Calling all artists and designers in Satsuma Class…
East Sussex has asked primary school pupils across the county to design a spring card with a message of hope and goodwill that can be sent to people that are feeling lonely and isolated at this time.
The designs should be emailed into school in the first instance where the top 5 designs will be sent off to be printed then sent out to those who need to be cheered up.
Come on Icklesham there are plenty of budding artist amongst us; let’s see what we can do!
Monday 6th April – HAPPY HOLIDAYS and home learning 2
Hello sunny Satsuma Class! I hope you all had a lovely weekend in the sunshine underneath those gorgeous blue skies. What did you do? I did a LOT of gardening and managed to defeat the ivy that had grown all over the fence…it took a lot of work! As promised, I have uploaded some new home learning activities below…
As Mrs Robinson said in her letter last week, it should have been the Easter holidays this week and next week so don’t feel like you have to start these home learning activities now. It is up to you! However, if having a routine is working for you and your family at home then feel free to start the learning and these activities.
The new term’s curious Curriculum is “I wonder……. What was it like to live in a tower, tunnel or turret?“
Happy holidays all and you sure do deserve to rest and relax after all your hard work at school and at home. I look forward to hearing from you and sharing news and pictures of your learning on our class page!
Message from Mr Cornes on Thursday 2nd April – Well being and online safety
Well Satsuma Class, we are now in our second week of home schooling and from the photos and updates your parents have been sending me it looks like a lot of learning and, most importantly, fun is being had which is great to see! Thank you for putting a big smile on my face! But this is also a strange time with a lot going on and a lot of news and change to have to get used to which understandably might make you feel all sorts of jumbled up feelings. Remember it is really important you look after your well being while you are at home, meaning both your physical and mental health so that you stay healthy, calm and happy. Remember you can always talk to your adults at home if you are at all worried (adults, there are links on the website home page to help you support your child or children). We have done lots of great mindfulness activities in class this year so why not try some of these at home to help keep you calm and concentrating on something different, like colouring in, breathing in through your nose for 3 seconds and out through your mouth for 3 seconds or singing along to your favourite song? There are some links below that will support you with other activities to help keep calm and relaxed as well:
https://www.cosmickids.com/category/watch/
It is also really important to remember that while you’re at home you might be using the internet a lot more to help you with your home learning. It is a fantastic resource to help us all with our learning but remember to stay safe online. You can work through the Online Safety section on Espresso (under computing) which is full of lots of helpful and educational resources. Remember health and safety never takes a day off!
Thanks for listening team! Mr Cornes
Healthy eating and recipes from Chartwells
Chartwells have been working on a project called The Super Yummy Kitchen. They have created cook along videos teaching how to create yummy, healthy snacks made from store cupboard ingredients. There will be a curriculum activity and a health and wellbeing challenge set everyday. If you’re interested and fancy becoming a brilliant chef then look at the document below for more details…
Did someone say… SPELLINGS?
Are you racing through the spelling books you have taken home faster than a speeding rocket? Well if you want to challenge yourself with some more spellings then I have attached the spellings curriculum… The spellings children in Year 2 need to learn are on pages 7-10 and the spellings children in Year 3 need to learn are on pages 11-17. If you want to recap on what phonics, digraphs and trigraphs are covered in Year 1 these can be found on pages 2-6. I hope that helps and happy spelling team!
Some maths help…
Here is a link to the National Curriculum mathematics programme of study: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/335158/PRIMARY_national_curriculum_-_Mathematics_220714.pdf. This HUGE document (you don’t need to read it all, don’t worry!) tells you what areas of maths children learn in Year 2 (pages 11-16) and Year 3 (pages 18 – 23) which might be useful. Also https://nrich.maths.org/primary has got LOADS of fun, creative and clever activities and games to help with maths learning. Don’t forget you all have logins to Times Table Rockstars (https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth/school/student) to help you learn your times tables too. I hope that helps!
Look below at Satsuma Class’ gallery of home learning so you can see what your team mates have been up to. Don’t forget to send me your photos and updates if you want me to put them on here too!
These photos are of Ava’s learning she has been doing at home, which her Mum sent in to Mr Cornes. She has been watching a live science demonstration from the Glasgow Science Centre daily at 10am and has taken part by creating a lava lamp, which she was very excited about! She learnt about the Spring Equinox on Friday as well. Also Ava has followed a live art demonstration on how to draw animals. On Friday afternoon Ava baked a cake and she was in charge of weighing the ingredients…baking and maths!
Layticia’s 30 Day Lego Challenge

Monday 30th March 2020
Good morning team and what a lovely, sunny one it is! How are you all and how has your first week of being at home been? It feels very strange to not have seen you all week but I have received lots of e-mails from your adults telling me about the exciting things you’ve all been doing at home so I will share the photos of these soon… Remember to email me on acornes@ickleshamcp.e-sussex.sch.uk if you would like me to share your learning with the team!
Sadly I didn’t get to do the Hastings Half Marathon that I have been training for as it was cancelled this weekend BUT don’t worry team…I have been sent a challenge by Hastings Half Marathon and I have attached the details below if you would like to join in and have a go at running, walking or wheeling 13.1 miles over a period of 13 days… GANBATTE (explain to your adults what that means!)
Friday 27th March 2020
Good morning (or should that be ohayou gozaimasu?!) Satsuma Class! I hope everyone is staying safe and enjoying this glorious Springtime weather in your garden or outdoor space. It’s lovely to see the daffodils and other flowers starting to bloom to remind you of a start of a new season. I hope you are all doing lots of fun activities at home and if you want to share these with me I can put them on this page so you can see what your teammates are doing at home and magpie ideas from each other!
Also each morning at 9am I have done the Joe Wicks PE lesson on YouTube, have you been doing it? It is EXHAUSTING and I’m definitely aching from it still but it is a great way to start the day! I think we can use some of his ideas for warm ups in our PE lessons in the future, I’m going to magpie them! You can find the PE lessons here and he will be doing them next week as well, just remember to drink lots of water: https://www.youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1
The chicks have arrived!
The six eggs that have been incubating in Apple Class finally hatched this weekend which was a lovely surprise for the children who were at school on Monday, as well as Mr Cornes! The six children named one chick each so say a HUGE welcome to Charli, Billie, Rainbow, Marshmallow, Flipper and…Steven! They have been chirping all day long and are very cute.
Welcome to Satsuma Class!
We are a class of Year 2 and Year 3 and we LOVE Learning.
Here are some of the things we need your help with:
We will need to read and practise our spellings regularly at home, and we will bring home other tasks to complete at the weekend or during the holidays. You will also find links to useful sites on our web page.
We will need our PE kits and book bags in school every day.
